NSWAFI is hosting our final education night of the year on Thursday 5/12/19. This will be also be our social night to celebrate the end of the year and the coming festive season. The topic for the presentation on the night will be fire and human behaviour. This unique topic will talk about the definition of arson, a short history of arson and where we stand today. It will briefly discuss the criminal typology classifications, subsequent motivations, recognized fire setter subtypes and then expand on each with a brief case study and explanation.
The presenter is Todd Hedglin who is a fire investigator based in the US. His professional career started with a combined period of over 26 years in public service to include the fire service and the United States Military. In 2006 Todd began investigating fires for both the public and the private sector. He has conducted and assisted with investigations in Colorado and various locations around the United States. Todd is an International Association of Arson Investigators-Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI®) and is the Operations Officer for IRIS Fire Investigations in Denver, Colorado. He conducts origin and cause investigations involving residential and commercial structures, wildland, and vehicle fires. He is routinely called to lecture and present on fire investigations, interviewing, wildland fire investigations and juvenile fire setter issues. He is the current President of the Colorado Chapter of the IAAI, and current Chairman of the Ethics, Practices & Grievances Committee of the IAAI.
The venue for the night will be The Winston, 170 Caroline Chisolm Drive, Winston Hills. The cost for the night is $25 for members and $45 for non-members. Food will be provided with a limited bar tab. The presentation will commence at 18:30 hours. Please book through our website.
